Posted On 14th July 2019

Match 1: Ireland v Russia 0-1

We started the EuroHockey Junior Championship, Women with a game from pool A, Ireland v Russia. From the start, both teams showed some great hockey. Ireland was controlling the game with the most ball possession. But both teams had chances to open the score. With one minute left in the first half, Ireland had a big chance from a penalty corner but couldn’t convert it. The score remained 0-0 at half time.

In the third quarter, Ireland had the best chances. They hit the post on the rebound of a penalty corner and in the 35th minute, the Irish attacker missed her duel with the Russian goalie. With 12 minutes left in the game, Russia scored from what was one of their first chances via Yushkova. After that opening goal, Ireland had ball possession in the opponents half but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Russia won their first game of the tournament on the smallest difference against Ireland.

Match 2: Spain v France 3-1

France had the better start to the game going ahead via a pc from PYRTEK in the 24th minute. And so the score stayed until the 35th minute when the hosts Spain found their stride and put 3 past the French defence in the second half to take the win, 3 points and top the pool overnight.

As there are 5 teams in this pool, there are extra pool games which will be played tomorrow as current Champions The Netherlands face France and the hosts take on the Russians, as both teams have a win under their belt, confidence will be running high for this contest.
