Match 1: Scotland v Portugal 6-1

The first match of the tournament was bathed in sunshine but also rain. The first quarter, sunny, brought frequent attacks by the Portuguese. The result was also the first goal of Portugal in the sixth minute. The goal seemed to trigger the rain. This brought Scottish pressure, and two goals in the second quarter, a lead of 2.1 at half time. Scotland carried on the momentum in the second half. Despite the rain in the sky it also rained goals for Scotland and they deserved the win.

Match 2: Russia v Italy 4-2

An important match of two equal teams on paper began with caution. Despite some signs of chances from the Italian team, neither of the opponents has opened the score. The second quarter was similar. In the end Russian and Italian scored once. Half time ended in a draw 1:1.

The second half finally brought hockey from end to end with lots of chances. Shots were exchanged and there were plenty of penalty corners. It was a Russian team that was more efficient. Above all, Alexei Sobolovsky was the scorer who set up a victory for his team with two goals.

Match 3: Ireland v Belarus 3-1

Perhaps the beginning of the game, specifically the eight minute, decided on the result of the match. The missed Belarusian penalty was missing from the team’s excellent entry into the match and mainly in the effort to get closer to the Irish team. The Irish did not hesitate to score a goal from the penalty circle – 1: 0. In the second quarter, not giving up the Belarusians, they scored a penalty corner and shot into the middle of the goal to 1: 1. The Irish, conscious of their position as a favourite, added a few quick counterattacks, and within a few minutes took the lead to 3: 1. In the second, the running Belarusians were unable to score a goal in the Irish goal and the winners did not take their victory.
Match 4: Czech Republic v Turkey 1-3
Unfortunately, the first, important step of the Czech Team in the tournament was not successful. Turkish team in the fourth minute prepared the first chance and penalty corner. In the tenth minute Turkish team scored by backhand shot. The Czechs had a  penalty corner, but the ball missed the goal.  In the second quarter was the Czech team more active, has penalty corners but couldn’t score the goal. After half time the Turkish team has another penalty corner, but the goal scored a few minutes later the czech team from a penalty corner by Gerlicky.  Early after that Turkish team scored by penalty stroke, to 1:2 for Turkey. The Czechs try to find their way to the opponent’s goal, but many unforced mistakes tied their hands. In the end, the Turkish team confirmed their victory by a goal to 1:3. The Czech team is waiting for one of the tournament favourites in the Tuesday match, the Irish team. Despite the upset in the first match, the chance of a good position in the group is still alive.
