European Hockey Federation is pleased to announce the results of the EHF Athletes Committee elections.
Voting for the 2 female members took place over this summer at EuroHockey Junior and Senior Championship events (the electorate comprised 87 national teams across 12 events). The election results were close, reflecting the high quality of candidates and the esteem in which they are held by their fellow athletes.
We are pleased to announce that Jill Boon (BEL) and Georgie Twigg (ENG) have been elected.
They join the two male members who were nominated, and thus deemed elected: Felix Denayer (BEL) & Jonathan Bell (IRL)
Elected candidates:
Jonathan Bell (IRL)
Jill Boon (BEL)
Felix Denayer (BEL)
Georgie Twigg (ENG)
As decided by EHF executive board, the role of FIH Athletes Committee Representative will be shared between two members of the FIH Athletes Committee; Janne Müller-Wieland (GER) and David Harte (IRL).
The Athletes Committee will serve as a link between the EHF and our Athletes and make sure the Athletes have a voice in the EHF’s decision-making process. The Committee will act as a consultative body and will make recommendations to the EHF Executive Board and Committees. The Committee will open better lines of two-way communication- representing the views of the Athletes within the EHF, and raising awareness and educating Athletes on topics of direct concern.
The EHF is pleased to be able to facilitate better dialogue between European hockey players and their governing body.
On announcing the results of the election, Marijke Fleuren, President of the EHF said ‘’Following the launch of the EHF’s Strategic Plan in 2016, and in line with our values of being Inclusive, Positive, Accountable and Dynamic we feel that establishing an Athletes Committee not only incorporates these values but also goes towards achieving our goals. In particular, raising the level of professionalism of our athletes, our staff, and our volunteers through education, development and good governance. We are looking forward to a close working relationship with our athletes, and we are excited to see where this Committee can take us.” Marijke also added that, as the EHF has launched its Equally Amazing Gender Balance Charter, “it is fitting that, in the same way as our athletes are 50/50 on the field, the Committee is also 50/50 in representation.” Finally, she thanked all the athletes who were nominated and those who took the time to vote over the summer.
The first meeting of the committee will take place later this month with the outcomes of the meeting being published on the EHF’s website.
