Who will become EuroHockey Indoor Champions, Men, 2020?

Posted On 13th January 2020

As the EuroHockey Indoor season kicks off with 3 divisions of the EuroHockey Indoor Championships, Men in Berlin, Lucerne and Santander we take a look at the three divisions:

EuroHockey Championship, Berlin 17/19 January 2020:

Two years ago in front of a packed house in Antwerp Austria proved worthy of holding both the World and European Cups at the same time by beating the home side by the narrowest of margins in a shoot out after a 4-4 tied final.

After two years, who will reign supreme as the best 8 European Men’s sides take to the stage in Berlin?

The Final Ranking in 2018 was:

1. AUT

2. BEL

3. GER

4. POL

5. CZE

6. RUS

7. SUI (relegated)

8. DEN (relegated)

The Netherlands and Ukraine were promoted from Championship II in 2018 and will take their places with the top teams. For Ukraine, this will be their first appearance at this level.

The teams have been named. Looking at the strong Austrian team with plenty of their World and European champion stars, they will take some beating from the rest of the field. Germany has named a young side led by Paul Doesch (Aged 21), but they should never be unestimated when on the Indoor court where they have reigned as Champions for many years. Belgium’s Indoor Red Lions will be led by Indoor veteran Renaud Pangrazio who has seen the progression of the Indoor Red Lions from the Championship II in 2016 to finalists in 2018.

EuroHockey Indoor Championship III, Santander, 17/19 January 2020:

The 3rd division of the Championships is an intriguing event as Spain will play its first EuroHockey Championship since 1980 with Ireland competing in this official event for the first time. With only one promotional place available it will be a hotly contested event.
