Austria lived up to their favourite billing by beating the up and coming, Dutch team. After a very even first half which ended 1-1, Austria took every chance in front of the Dutch goal to win the game 5-3 and a chance to defend their title.
A perfect delivery in front of a packed stadium gave Germany their chance to reclaim the EuroHockey title as they earned their place in the final with a win over Russia.
Earlier this evening the Pool C, relegation pool started, essential for teams hoping to stay in this division and one space at the FIH World Cup at stake.
After exchanging goal for goal all game it was Belgium who came out the eventual winners with 3 late goals as Ukraine went for a power-play without their keeper. Belgium would need to take a full 3 points again tomorrow to be in the mix for consolidating their place in the Championship division.
Poland and the Czech Republic played out a draw 3-3 to leave the Pool C wide open for tomorrow’s final games. The bottom two teams will be relegated. As Ukraine can’t do better than 3 points, they will be relegated but Poland, Czech Republic and Belgium all still have a chance to stay in the division. The 5th placed team will earn a slot at the FIH World Cup.
