Belarus is crowned Champion of Europe

Final: Belarus v The Netherlands 1 – 1 (4 – 3 SO)

A brilliant final between two very talented and well-organised teams saw The Netherlands go-ahead in the 8th minute. Belarus struggled to get past the Dutch defence to find the equaliser, including a brilliant, save from the keeper just before the end of the 3rd quarter. A goal from Belarus in the final seconds of the game equalised the game to take it to a shoot out! Even after the first round of shootouts, the teams could not be separated. Maryna Nikisina was the hero for Belarus when she shot home the winning shootout to give Belarus the win!

Bronze Medal Match 19: Germany v Czech Republic 2 – 2 (1 – 2 SO)

In an evenly matched game where both teams matched each other in defence and attack. Czech went ahead early in the game. Germany’s corners let them down as 5 went without conversion. But 2 field goals put them ahead at the halftime break. Czech equalised in the 3rd quarter from their only pc of the game. An intense 4th quarter as neither side could find the breakthrough and the game ended 2-2 bringing it to a shootout to decide the winner. Czech won the shoot out 2-1 and took the Bronze.

Earlier this morning Ukraine and Austria secured not only their places in the Championship division but also in the next FIH Indoor World Cup.

Match 17: Ukraine v Switzerland 6-2

Ukraine showed their class against Switzerland as they finished Pool C with 9 points. Having just missed out on a semi-final slot (losing 5-4 to the Czech Republic, they made sure of their 5th place finish. Switzerland finished 8th in this event, the young side unable to keep their Championship status and will play in the second division in 2021.

Match 18: Austria v Belgium 3-1

Nothing short of a win would be enough for Belgium whereas Austria could stay in 6th place with a draw. As Belgium went ahead early in the game forcing the Austrians to up their game. They equalised just before half-time and took control of the second half with 2 further goals as time ran out for the Belgians. The final World Cup and Championship (2021) slot went to Austria, with Belgium joining Switzerland in the Championship II in 2021.
