Today is International Women’s Day and the end of our week of celebration of women around the European hockey world! Today we asked our President, Marijke Fleuren to summarise the week for us and share with us her thoughts on the 2020 IWD theme of #EachforEqual
“This week we have highlighted women who are involved in many aspects of our sport on and off the field. Each of them has a role to play in being involved in delivering hockey as a gender-balanced sport. I always say that it is only by the good collaboration of the genders that we get truly good decision making, not only in hockey but in business, in education, indeed in life!
The #EachforEqual theme of International Women’s Day this year reflects the message that each of us has a role in making the world more equal and therefore better.
In the EHF we are taking this seriously with our Gender Balance charter which is now actively being worked on in our member associations.”
Speaking about the FIH Women in Sport Committee she added: “International Women’s Day is an excellent moment for the FIH Women in Sport Committee to inform you about our main goals:1. Creating AWARENESS within all our National Associations that men and women are stronger together. Not only on the field of play, but also outside.
2. FIH’s special goals are realising this amongst coaches, umpires and board members.
So please think about it, look for role models and make this next step to togetherness! Everybody can do it. Really!
