After months of preparation EuroHockey Indoor Championship (Women) 2014 in Poreč started.
The first day brought us four games. For start Turkey played against Portugal and won 7:1, with 3:0 on the halftime. Fast Turkish players on the wings of Perihan Kucukkoc who scored four goals were too much for Portuguese in game which showed that the winning team coud be fighting for promotion as one of the favourites among rest of the teams.
Second game was a match between Sweden and host Croatia. It was a close first half, draw 1:1 but in the end it was Croatia who took three points in a fair games with no cards. Two late goals from Šomin Viktoria in 34th and 36th minute set the final result 2:4.
Third game was a clash of neighbours, Turkey vs Bulgaria. Half time ended 3:0 for the Turks and it seemed that everything will go the same like in the first game, but in the second half Bulgaria offered better game, scored a goal and in the end lost only 4:1.
Old friends Croatia and Portugal played the last game of the day. Croatia wanted to extend the winning streak and Portugal wanted to end the losing one. In 5th minute Croatia was already leading with 2:0, but in 11th minute gave Portugal a chance to come back, halftime 2:1. Croatians opened second half with a goal and then scored two more to secure the win. Probably the most deserving for win was Croatians number 7, Dolores Peranić who managed to score three goals as the team continues the winning streak. Final result Croatia – Portugal 5:2.
