The EHF Education and Development Committees held a EHF/FIH Academy Level 1 in Komotini, Greece this weekend.
EHF Education and Development Manager, Norman Hughes and Siegfried Aikman conducted the course and assessed the delegates alongside EHF Assessor Antonio Antonov and FIH Academy Officer Mike Joyce.
20 delegates from 5 nations of South East Europe will took part in the programme which was designed to train coaches to coach players that are new to hockey.
Topics covered included:
• Coaching/Teaching styles
• The roles of a coach
• Learning styles
• Long Term Athlete Development
• Basic skills training
• Introduction to FIH Academy
17 Delegates put themselves forward for full competency assessment and out of this group 14 achieved the required level . Further action plans for all delegates were discussed in one on one sessions.
EHF hopes that a new breed of young coaches will energise the local communities with hockey actions over the next year. They have been charged to report back their coaching actions in 6 months time.
