Our #FridayFocus features have shined a light these past few months on all our Education and Development activities, from #UDP to #ParaHockey and everything in between.
This Friday, we turn our focus to the Education Committee itself. They are the architects of all our Educational programmes, and in many cases, also act as conductors and facilitators.
The Education Committee is divided into 3 working groups, which focus on the 3 main groups targeted by EHF: Coaches, Umpires and Officials. The Committee is chaired by Inez Cooper, who is also an Executive Board Member, and assisted and supported by EHF Education and Development Manager, Norman Hughes.
The three working groups each have a sub-chair, who oversees the calendar of programmes, manages the group’s budget and coordinates the activities with the help of the other committee members in their corresponding sub-group. The three current sub-chairs of the committee are Herman Kruis (Coaching), Paul Box-Grainger (Umpiring) and Edna Rutten (Officials).
The theme of 3’s continues as each sub-group is divided into three tiers, aimed at providing a suitable Educational programme for all levels. This Three Tier pathway gives coaches, umpires and officials a path to follow and is intended to bridge the gap between our high performing nations and our developing nations.
EHF Education and Development Manager Norman Hughes explains: “Each tier is used to talent spot and asses who is ready to move up a level and who needs more help. It creates a real pathway to excellence. With our 3 tier approach, we hope that we are satisfying the training needs of all our members.”
You can find out more about our programmes by looking at our Education section on our website, and read up on our Coaches, Umpires and Officials programmes! The committee also has two members who are also on the Appointments Committee (Sylvie Petitjean and Henrik Ehlers) who serve as a link between the two committees.
The EHF Education Committee will hold its next meeting in the EHF Office in Brussels on October 15th. This meeting will serve to set the calendar of activities for 2017.
