As part of the Commonwealth Games Legacy programme Hockey Wales is excited to announce a fantastic partnership with Cancer Research UK and their inspirational Race for Life Events across Wales this summer. Hockey Wales will be taking to the road with their inflatable pitch to support the events around the Principality and promote hockey to new and past audiences.
We want to celebrate the achievement of our national Men and Women’s teams taking part in the Commonwealth Games and maximise this opportunity to get people inspired in Hockey. We will see Hockey Wales and our hockey clubs supporting each of the events, volunteering and promoting their clubs to new audiences and have even set a challenge for the Hockey Club who can get the most members to take part running/walking/jogging or even dribbling a hockey ball around the course in their hockey kit!
Once the Games have closed there will be more opportunities for people to have a go at hockey by taking part in a session near them during our Hockey Club open weekend on September the 6th and 7th there will be something for everyone!
Head of Sport Caroline Spanton said “This is an incredible opportunity to help an organisation that does amazing work. We are incredibly proud to support and add value to the Race for Life events across Wales and are able to showcase what a great sport hockey can be for all ages and abilities.”
Carrie Murphy, Events Manager for North Wales said “We are really excited to be supported by Hockey Wales at various events throughout Wales this year. We are urging all ladies to sign up for Race for Life to raise funds for over 200 types of cancer and to take part in the fantastic activities Hockey Wales are providing at our events. 50 people every day are diagnosed with cancer in Wales. Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Wales.”
