Day 2 – Morning Roundup – EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup, Men, Poznan

There was all to play for this morning in Poznan with only the hosts Grunwald assured of a place in the semis at close of play on Day 1.

In Pool A Grunwald held on to top place with a win against holders Partille, while HC Minsk prevailed over Dinamo Stroitel in the battle for the second semi-final position. In Pool B SV Arminen, der Club an der Alster and SV Complutense all finished on 11 points, Complutense with the worst goal difference move to Pool C.

Day 2 Afternoon Schedule

Match 1: SV ARMINEN 4-5 SPV COMPLUTENSE

A must win game for Complutense and they came out strong. After Cobos scored from a penalty stroke, Prol doubled their lead with another goal, but this time from a penalty corner. Arminen managed to end the quarter on a positive note with two quick goals from Steyrer and Minar. Second quarter was almost scoreless, but Sanz managed to finish a tough chance to pull Complutense back in the lead.The second half brought us more of the same, with both teams giving it all, and the goalkeepers on both sides excelling with their saves. A goal from Losonci made it level again, Prol and Styrer both scored their second goal of the contest from penalty corners, but Rodríguez managed to score a last-second goal to secure a big win for Complutense.  

 

Match 2: ROYAL WHITE STAR 8-10 DER CLUB AN DER ALSTER

Last match of group B and Alster need a win from it to reach the semi finals. Alster started the match well with goals from Reimann for a 2:1 lead, but in the last minute of the first quarter Simar scored two goals to finish off his hat trick and secure the lead for White Star. In the second quarter it was more of the same as every goal for White Star was answered by Alster. White Star managed to keep their lead as Simar and Gaëtan Dykmans scored and on the other side, Alster managed to keep within reaching distance as Reimann scored two.In the last minute of the third quarter, Bruns finalized his hat trick with two goals and an Alster lead. Linnekogel got one to increase their lead, but Simar kept White Star in the game with his sixth goal of the match. In the end, Reimann confirmed the win for Alster with his fifth goal.

 

Match 3: HC MINSK 4-1 DINAMO STROITEL EKATERINBURG

It was a tough match with a lot chances on both sides, but also it was a showcase of great defense. A win for either team could mean a place in the semifinals. Minsk opened the scoring chart early with a goal from Mikheichyk, but then we had a stalemate situation, as for the rest of the first half, no team managed to find the back of the net. Early in the second half, Belavusau doubled the lead. A goal from Kotkov for Dinamo was enough of a motivation to start pushing for a second goal harder, but it was not enough. Belavusau got his second goal and the final goal was scored by Luppa to cement a win for Minsk. With this win, Minsk secured their place in the semifinals.

 

Match 4: PARTILLE SC 4 –6 WKS GRUNWALD POZNAN

Grunwald got off to a great start with a goal from Hulboj in the first minute,but Partille was not going down without a fight. After Grand scored one, Björkman converted a penalty stroke to put Partille 2:1 up. At the brink of halftime, Mikula and Hulboj brought the game back for Grunwald. Grumny scored to increase Grunwald’s lead, but Hemwik was quick to bring it back to keep the difference between the teams to one goal as we were heading into the last quarter. Björkman scored his second goal and equalized the game, but Hulboj brought the lead back to Grunwald. Dutkiewicz converted a penalty corner with a few minutes left to secure the win and a first place finish in the group stage for Grunwald.
